Aerogel is a lightweight, porous solid material obtained by replacing the liquid inside a hydrogel (wet gel) with air without changing its volume. It has an extremely low density and high porosity, and is referred to as ‘solid smoke’ or ‘frozen smoke’, being one of the lightest solid materials in the world. Its unique three-dimensional network structure allows the hydrogel to not only have low thermal conductivity but also sound-absorbing and noise-reducing functions, along with Class A fire resistance and overall hydrophobic properties.
